HOW TO SHRINK & ELIMINATE FIBROID WITHOUT SURGERY

Uterine fibroid are benign growths that can form in the smooth muscle tissue of the uterus and are the most common form of non-cancerous tumors afflicting women during childbearing years. Also known as a leiomyoma (leiomyomata), fibroid tumors often occur in groups.

While they often show no symptoms, uterine fibroid can cause pain during sexual intercourse or menstruation and affect urinary tendencies.

Fibroid and pregnancy can have implications; though these symptoms are rare, fibroid can increase the chance of miscarriage, cause bleeding, premature labor, and affect the position of the fetus. The pressure that fibroid may place on the rest of the body can cause gastrointestinal issues like constipation, bloating, and even infertility.

Fibroid are common, 3 out of 4 women will experience them in their lives. However, they do not often require treatment and often women do not experience fibroid symptoms that affect them at all. When fibroid cause pain or excessive bleeding they should be treated.

Types of Fibroids:

Uterine Fibroid are classified according to their location within the uterus. There are three primary types of fibroid tumors:

Subserosal Fibroid:

This  develops in the outer portion of the uterus and continue to grow outward. These fibroid typically do not affect a woman’s menstrual flow, or cause excessive menstrual bleeding, but can cause pain due to their size and the added pressure on other organs.

Intramural Fibroid tumors:

These are the most common and develop in the uterine wall and expand. These fibroid can cause the uterus to appear larger in size which can be mistaken for weight gain or pregnancy. Associated symptoms include heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic and back pain, frequent urination and pressure.

Submucosal Fibroid:

The other type of fibroid tumor is submucosal, the least common of the three. These fibroid develop within the uterine cavity and can cause excessive menstrual bleeding along with prolonged menstrual cycles.

A woman may have one or all of these types of fibroid. It is common for a woman to have multiple fibroid tumors and it may be difficult to understand which fibroid is causing the symptoms.

Because fibroid tumors are a diffuse disease of the uterus, there are usually more fibroids present than can be detected because of their small size. Even a woman who has only one visible fibroid needs to assume that there are multiple uterine fibroids present when discussing therapy. Uterine fibroids may also be referred to as myoma, leiomyoma, leiomyomata, and fibromyoma.

If you think you may have uterine fibroid, or are experiencing any of the related signs and symptoms of uterine fibroid, please contact your primary care provider or OB/Gyn as soon as possible in order to rule out any other complications that could be causing your symptoms.

Knowing the types of fibroid and understanding their symptoms can help you choose the right fibroid treatment.

Uterine fibroids are benign (noncancerous) tumors that grow on or within the muscle tissue of the uterus. Approximately 20-40% of women 35 years and older have fibroid tumors. Fibroids are more common among women of African-American descent.

Some statistics indicate that up to 80% of African-American women will develop uterine fibroid. While some women do not experience any of the symptoms of fibroid, the location and size of fibroid tumors can cause symptoms that can affect a woman’s quality of life.

Fibroids are hormonally sensitive so symptoms are likely to be cyclical, like menstruation.

As estrogen levels tend to increase prior to the onset of menopause, this may cause the size of many uterine fibroid to increase.

This may cause an increase in the symptoms of fibroid as well.

During menopause the levels of estrogen decrease dramatically, causing fibroid to shrink. However, women taking hormone replacement therapy (HRT) during menopause may not experience any symptom relief because the estrogen contained in this regime may cause fibroid tumors to enlarge and symptoms to return.

The size of fibroid range from very small (walnut size) to as large as a cantaloupe or even larger. Typically, physicians measure uterine fibroid in terms of the size of the uterus during pregnancy; for example, a very large fibroid can cause the uterus to become the size of a six- or seven-month pregnancy (24-28 weeks). Additionally, there can either be one dominant fibroid or a cluster of many small fibroid tumors.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF FIBROID:

Women ages 35-54 potentially face an increased risk for uterine fibroid tumors. Understanding fibroids and the various symptoms that can accompany them is essential in obtaining the proper treatment.

There are several different types of symptoms that women can experience if they have fibroid tumors. In some cases, there may be no symptoms at all. Depending on the size and location of the fibroid tumors, symptoms can become so severe that they affect the ability to maintain day to day activities.

However, many women live with fibroid tumors and still maintain a good quality of life with the ability to manage and perform their everyday tasks.

Because fibroid tumors are hormonally sensitive, symptoms of fibroids are typically cyclical like menstruation. An increase in estrogen levels can cause many fibroid tumors to grow in size and can cause symptoms to increase as well.

The severity of these symptoms may be underestimated, as some women who suffer from symptomatic fibroids have become accustomed to the heavy menstrual bleeding, pain and pressure that they can cause.

Some of the most common symptoms of uterine fibroid include heavy, excessive menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain and pressure, and urinary incontinence and frequency.

Heavy or abnormal uterine bleeding is a common sign of intramural and submucosal fibroid and differs from a typical menstrual period in that it can affect daily activities.

Pelvic pain and pressure can result from the growth of fibroid tumors which puts additional pressure on surrounding organs. Urinary incontinence is also caused by fibroid growth putting increased pressure on the bladder.

LIST OF COMMON SYMPTOMS OF FIBROID:

These are various symptoms of uterine fibroid among women:

1.      Low abdominal pain and pressure

2.      Inability to urinate due to pressure on bladder

3.      Pain during sexual intercourse

4.      Spotting between periods

5.      Some women report having chronic vaginal discharge

6.      Indigestion

7.      Bladder infection and irritation

8.      Pregnancy complications due to growth of tumor that increase in size as the baby also increase in size

9.      Infertility

10.  Back pain

11.  Leg pain especially in the upper thigh

12.  Increase in stomach size due to fibroid growth

13.  Large tumors may also cause constipation due to pressure on the intestine

14.  Frequent urination due to pressure on bladder

15.  Heavy blood flow may   result in anemia. This can lead to dizziness or weakness.

16.  An extended menstrual cycle arising from tumor that extends into the uterus

17.  Pain during menstrual cycle

CAUSES OF FIBROID:

Most doctors don’t know the cause of uterine fibroids, but research and experience point to some prevailing factors:

GENETICS

Many fibroid contain genes that differ from those in normal uterine muscle cells. There’s also some evidence that fibroids run in some families and that identical twins are more likely  to both develop fibroid in their reproductive years than  non-identical twins.

HORMONES:

Estrogen and Progesterone are two hormones that stimulate development of the uterine lining during each menstrual cycle in preparation for pregnancy, appear to be one of the things that promote the growth of fibroid. Fibroid contain more estrogen and progesterone receptors than normal uterine muscle cells do.Fibroids tend to shrink after menopause due to decrease in hormones

RACE:

Women of African  descent are two to three times more likely  to develop uterine fibroid than women of other races.African women also at a younger age(in their 20s)  may also develop symptoms of fibroid in contrast to Caucasian women with fibroid in whom symptoms typically occur during their 30s and 40s

OTHER GROWTH FACTORS:

Substances that help  the body maintain tissues such as insulin-like growth factor may likely enhance the growth of fibroid

PROBABLE LINK TO THE RISE OF FIBROID AMONG WOMEN:

According to renowned clinical sexologists and nutritionists, “Fibroid has become rampant and prevalent worldwide due to various reasons basically due to our DIET and MODERN LIFESTYLE which can’t be compared with natural ways and lifestyles of people of old.

Estrogen is increasing in the woman’s body system through exposure to petrochemical plastics (e.g use of drinking water bottles). Pesticides sprayed on crops that eventually get to the market place where we purchase our food items.Insecticide we use at home that are laden with toxic chemicals that women ingest to their body system.

Our foods are even overcooked which kill vital food enzymes ,digestive enzymes which play  vital roles in making our body to function effectively and  at peak capacity.Enzymes are living part of our food and are destroyed when temperatures exceed 118 degrees centigrade. Our modern diet is filled with processed and overcooked foods(hot dogs,French fries, hamburgers, baked bread e.t.c)”.

In other words;the life-the enzymes- have been cooked out of our food and destroyed.Hence, women needs to note this principle:if we eat more raw, uncooked foods, our bodies will not need to expend their  valuable metabolic enzymes to make digestive enzymes.

Over the past centuries diets have changed tremendously from eating mainly whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables to eating excessive amount of cooked meats, diary, cheese, eggs, procesed foods and sugar. As a result, diseases including FIBROID (TUMOR) has flourished.

Most of the meats ,diary, chickens  consumed have high quantity of antibiotics(especially tetracycline to counter salmonella and other bacteria),steroids and growth hormones. This go a long way in disrupting the metabolic processes in the body and also increases the toxicity and inflammations in the body.

TREATMENT OF FIBROID (TUMOR) AND THEIR POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS:

Fibroids aren’t cancerous. They usually grow slowly or they may not at all and they tend to shrink after menopause, when levels of reproductive hormones has reduced. Most medications for fibroid target hormones  that regulate your menstrual cycle, treating symptoms such as  heavy bleeding and pelvic pressure. They don’t  eliminate fibroid, but may shrink  them. Some of the medications include:

List of Various Treatments for Fibroid(Tumor):

MYOLYSIS:

In this procedure, an electric current or laser destroys the fibroids and shrinks the blood vessels that feed them. A similar procedure called cryomylosis freezes the fibroid. Mylosis  is not used often. Another version of this procedure, radio frequency ablation, is being studied.

LAPAROSCOPIC OR ROBOTIC MYOMECTOMY

In a myomectomy, your surgeon removes the fibroid ,leaving the uterus in place. If the fibroids are small and few in number, you and your doctor may opt for a laparoscopic or robotic procedure, which uses slender instruments inserted through small incisions  in your abdominal area on a monitor using a small camera attached to one of the instruments.Robotic myomectomy gives your surgeon a magnified,3-D view of your uterus offering more precision, flexibility and dexterity than is possible, using some other techniques.

HYSTEROSCOPIC MYOMECTOMY

This  procedure may be an option if the fibroids are contained inside the uterus(submucosal).Your  surgeon accesses and removes fibroid using instruments inserted through your vagina and cervix into your uterus.

ENDOMETRIALABLATION AND RESECTION OF SUBMUCOSAL FIBROID.

This treatment performed with a specialized instrument inserted into our uterus, uses heat, microwave energy ,hot water or electric current to destroy the lining of your uterus, either ending menstruation  or reducing your menstrual flow. Typically, endometrial ablation is effective in stopping  abdominal bleeding. Submucosal fibroids can be removed at the time of hysteroscopy for endometrial ablation ,but this doesn’t affect fibroids outside the interior lining of the uterus.

GONADOTROPHIN-RELEASING HORMONE(Gn-RH) AGONISTS:

Medications called Gn-RH agonists(Lupron,Synarel, others) treat fibroids by blocking the production of estrogen and progesterone, putting you into a temporal menopausal state. As a result menstruation  stops, fibroids shrink and anemia often improves.Your medical doctor may prescribe a Gn-RH agonist to shrink the size of your  fibroids  before a planned surgery.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Many women have significant  hot flashes while using the medication.Gn-RH

Agonists typically are used for no more than three to six months because symptoms return when medication is stopped and long term use cause loss of bone.

PROGESTIN-RELEASING INTRAUTERINE DEVICE(IUD).

A progestin-releasing IUD can relieve heavy bleeding caused  by fibroids. A progestin-releasing IUD provides symptom relief only and doesn’t shrink fibroids or make them disappear.

OTHER MEDICATIONS:

Doctors may give  other recommendations. For example, oral contraceptives or progestins can help control menstrual bleeding, but they  don’t reduce   the size of uterine fibroids.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDS),which are not hormonal medications, may be effective in relieving pain related to fibroids, but they don’t reduce the size fibroids.Your medical doctor may suggest you take vitamins and iron for the heavy bleeding and anemia.

NON-INVASIVE PROCEDURE:

MRI-guidedfocussed ultrasound surgery(FUS) is: a noninvasive treatment option for uterine fibroids that preserves your uterus, requires no incision and is done on an outpatient basis.Performed while you are inside an MRI scanner equipped  with high energy ultrasound transducer for treatment. The images give your doctor the precise location of the uterine  fibroids. When the location of the fibroids  is targeted, the ultrasound  tranducer focuses sound waves into the fibroid to heat and destroy  small areas of fibroid tissue.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE PROCEDURES:

Certain procedures can destroy uterine fibroids without actually removing them through surgery.

They include:

UTERINE ARTERY EMBOLIZATION

Small particles (embolic agents) are injected into the arteries the supplying the uterus, cutting off blood flow to fibroids, causing them to shrink and die. This technique can be effective in shrinking fibroids and relieving the symptoms they cause.

SIDE EFFECTS: Complications may occur if the blood supply to your ovaries or other organs is comprised.

TRADITIONAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES:

There are options of for traditional surgical operations namely:

ABDOMINAL MYOMECTOMY:

If you have multiple fibroids, very large fibroids or very deep fibroids, your  doctor may use open abdominal surgical procedure  to remove the fibroids .Many women who are told that hysterectomy is their only option can have an abdominal myomectomy instead.

HYSTERECTOMY

This  surgery leads to the removal of the uterus remains the only proven  permanent solution for uterine fibroids. But it is a major surgery and ends you ability to bear children. And if you also elect to your ovaries removed ,it brings on menopause and the question of whether you will take hormone replacement therapy. Most women with uterine fibroids can choose to keep their ovaries. The side effects ate (1) Reduced Libido (2) Early Menopause

RISK OF DEVELOPING NEW FIBROIDS

For all procedures except HYSTERECTOMY, tiny tumors(seedlings) that your doctor didn’t detect could eventually grow and cause symptoms that warrant treatment. This is often termed RECURRENT RATE .New fibroids, which may or may not  require treatment, also can develop

FOODS TO AVOID WHEN TREATING OR WHEN YOU HAVE FIBROID (TUMOR)

We need to put a sign in our kitchen and refrigerator that says :DON’T FEED YOUR UTERINE FIBROIDS!!! .This will be a reminder to stop feeding our body with bad foods that enhances the growth of uterine fibroid.

These are some list of foods women with fibroids should avoid for their optimum health and well-being.

FAST FOODS:

Fast foods such as hot dogs, french fries, hamburgers, baked bread e.t.c are overprocessed and overcooked foods that has been stripped off necessary nutrients and essential enzymes that is needed for biological activity in our body.Dr Weston Price’s research  around the world  showed that when refined, processed, cooked foods were introduced  into various cultures, the people’s health deteriorate  rapidly.

SUGAR

Sugar derived from simple sugars, carbohydrate as well as various other hidden sugars in processed foods  causes more ESTROGEN in the body by increasing insulin levels in the body which then decrease the levels of hormone that binds free estrogen called sex hormone binding globulin. When the body has less of this estrogen binding hormone ;it means that there will be more of the fibroid loving estrogen in the blood’s stream which fights sickness or disease.

More sugar in the body means less vitamin B which usually helps the liver to get  rid of estrogen. The extra insulin levels in the body due to excess sugar go hand in hand with weight gain which is why most people with Type 2 Diabetes are overweight.Been overweight  can increase estrogen levels.Reduction in sugar consumption will go a long way in managing  uterine fibroids.

DIARY PRODUCTS:

Man is the only species in the animal kingdom that drinks milk as an adult. Diary products have no nutritional use for the adult human body. Consuming much of diary products can lead to allergy which has been linked to many infections. Although we need calcium in our body but when milk is pasteurized ,the calcium becomes inorganic  which is less assimilated by the body. Some researches shows that there might be  a connection between diary products and fibroid growth. So, less  diary products needs to be consumed.Alternative plant products such as soy, nuts need to be considered.

ANIMAL PRODUCTS

Example of animal products like meat, chicken, turkey e.t.c.Where our meat comes from makes a huge difference. Most of the meat we buy are loaded and filled with antibiotics, steroids and growth hormones. Some of these animal products are injected with antibiotics so as to prevent bacteria infection. We ingest  all these which can cause weight gain, hormonal imbalance, reproductive system problems and also cause fibroids to grow larger.
